Multicultural Village Because it takes a Village to change a life....

About Conflict and Peace Building

Conflict is a natural part of our everyday lives and is inevitable. Unfortunately without the skills to transform and deal with conflict constructively we see many destructive effects such as violence, inability to communicate effectively, lack of cooperation, mental health issues (stress, low self esteem, unclear perceptions) and an inability to trust.

Multicultural Village takes into account the unique conflict context and needs of the different people we work with. The Village gives its particpants multiple opportunities to learn/build/practice skills and acquire knowledge needed to deal with their conflicts constructively and to actively DO peace which they can use to enhance their everyday lives.

Summer 2009 Jamaica: Peace Building Jamaican style

Planning ahead for Summer 2009. We hope to do a three week program similar to our other programs in Jamaica. This is in an effort to address social, historical and economic tensions which play out as direct and cultural violence. Michelle Cromwell, the President will be attending a conference on March 13 at UWI, Mona to speak on the effects that historical oppression has on creating destructive conflict. Jamaica definitely seems to be set to walk the talk. They are having a Peace Day on March 3 as well as a Peace Walk. These are signs that mark the beginning of great things to come in Jamaica and I really look forward to being a part of this great move to Being and Doing Peace actively! Look out for more about Dr. Cromwell's experiences in Jamaica iin early March.
