Internships


Are you a HAPPY PERSON, who is aware of your life passions, commitment to the theory and practice of nonviolence, peace and conflict analysis and resolution? If so, you are the type of intern we are looking for. Our interships are an opportunity for students to see the classroom learning in action. We see our intership opportunities as helping students to take their learning beyond the classroom in a number of ways and to see theories come alive.


We offer two types of interships, Semester Interships and Program Interships.



Semester Interships

These are usually done during the fall and spring semesters and may include all/some/one of the following opportunities.


Administrative

-Maintain effective communication and strategies with Multicultural Village’s partners related to ongoing projects

-Maintain a case file on assigned project progress, milestones, challenges and outcomes

-Provide up-to-date information on assignment /project for webmaster to update website

-Attend meetings to give updates to clients or board on assignments/projects


Fund Raising and Financial

Edit grant budget, program fees, and other donor documents.

Maintain data base from philanthropic organizations, local and national


Research and Practice

-Design a short term Village type program for a setting of your choice

-Use the Village model to create an opportunity to learn practice skills e.g. workshop development, workshop delivery, facilitation

-Design a reseach process to assess your project

-Prepare research report from data collected from previous village


Semester Internship Requirements: Must have a clear idea of how educational goals and plan can be served by interning at MCV. Must maintain a weekly log to ensure that learning objectives are being realized. Must attend monthly meeting with President to update progress, challenges and resolutions. Complete a service learning agreement that outlines their learning desires, needs and expectations. Preference will be given to undergraduate or graduate students in an appropriate field. 1 year of experience in student leadership/advocacy, nonprofit volunteering, and/or a community grassroots organization is preferred. Some experience with international organizations preferable.




Program Interships

Program interns are involved with the day to day running of a particular Village program. It may involved travel to an international program or being involved in a local residential Village.


Requirements: Interns will be expected to act as complimentary mentors to the Villagers and support for the Village Elders. Each intern will be assigned to a Village Elder so that the intern will in turn receive mentorship. In their support capacity they will be required to assist Village Elders with the delivery and evaluation of their program. This may include delivering workshops, coordination entertainment, and evening activities, assisting with programing or assisting with the back end duties such as the documentary or the newsletter. Other administrative duties may be also included after discussion. Internships are unpaid and a small adminstrative fee is required for your room, board and insurance during the Village.


Program Intern Qualifications:


Upper level undergraduate , holding a Bs. in a Social Science or related discipline or graduate students in related field (Conflict Analysis and Resolution, Peace and Justice, International Relations, Dispute Resolution, Peace Education)

Proficient in Microsoft Office or Apple I Life

Fluent or working knowledge of foreign language preferable

Ability to adapt to different cultures easily

A demonstrated commitment to Peace Building and Conflict Resolution

Available for entire period of Village

Happy, flexible and emotionally mature and honest

Holds passport ( has travelled internationally ...preferable)
